Oliver Ames High School Students to Receive Recognition at Hockomock Film Festival

EASTON — Superintendent Lisha Cabral is proud to share that two films produced by Oliver Ames High School students as part of a Media Production class project will receive recognition at the Hockomock Film Festival on June 8.

Students from nine different schools submitted 65 films in the short film, documentary and PSA categories. Short films and documentary films had to be less than ten minutes in length and PSAs had to be under one minute. The annual filmmaking competition was open for Attleboro, Canton, Easton, Foxborough, Franklin, Mansfield, Milford, Norfolk, North Attleborough, Plainville, Sharon, Stoughton, Taunton and Wrentham students.

Out of the three films that made the “honorable mention” category in the festival, two films made in Oliver Ames High School Media Production teacher Stephen Souza’s class earned placements and will be shown to the audience in attendance. Students will receive an award for their honorable mention placement as well as a $50 dollar prize.

Paranormal Xtreme,” produced by juniors Sophia DiBona, Jessica Bradley and Michaela Scott and senior Andrey DeSouza-Lopes, is a mockumentary-style short horror. “BLT,” produced by seniors Samatha Johnson, Annie Reilly and Dominic Davis, is a short stop-motion film of an individual making a sandwich out of Lego pieces.

The Hockomock Film Festival, organized by Easton Community Access Television, has been held annually in Easton for over twenty years. This year’s festival will be held at the Oakes Ames Memorial Hall in Easton at 6 p.m. Community members are invited to attend.

“I’m so proud of all my students, but these few winners always go above and beyond,” said Souza. “Their success is an Easton success, and I commend them for their hard work!”
