Oliver Ames Student-Athletes Visit State House Following Successful Championship Seasons

EASTON — Superintendent Lisha Cabral is pleased to share that Oliver Ames High School student-athletes recently visited the Massachusetts State House, where they were recognized for their girls’ cross country and boys’ soccer championship seasons.

Earlier this month, 36 student-athletes on the girls’ cross country team and 31 on the boys’ soccer team and their coaches visited the State House. As part of their visits, both teams were honored by legislators during informal sessions in the House and Senate and toured the building.

All of the students were presented with certificates and citations by State Senator Walter Timilty, acknowledging their successful championship seasons.

“We are proud of the dedication, perseverance and sportsmanship that our athletes have exhibited,” Superintendent Cabral said. “We also commend their professional and committed coaches for nurturing them in their athletic and personal growth, so that they are able to achieve these accomplishments. We are thankful to Senator Timilty who recognized our student-athletes hard work and honored them at the State House. We appreciate his continued support of the Easton Public Schools.”

The girls’ cross country team had an outstanding season, winning the Hockomock Davenport Division championship with an undefeated record. They were also the District 1C Champions as well as Division 1 State Champions. Senior Katie Sobieraj also represented Oliver Ames at Nationals.

The boys’ soccer team won the Hockomock Davenport Division championship with an overall 20-2-1 record. They then went on to defeat Wakefield in the Division 2 State Championship to earn back-to-back Division 2 State titles.

“We’re so proud of the girls’ cross country and the boys’ soccer teams and all they’ve accomplished this year,” said Athletic Director Merry MacDonald. “It is an honor for our student-athletes to be recognized in this way and we’d like to thank our State House delegation for hosting our teams and coaching staff.”
