What is the benefit to my child of being in a classroom with 3, 4, and 5-year-olds?
Children of all ages benefit from the modeling and skill level of older children. Older children learn compassion and empathy from helping younger children. Younger children learn from watching the skills and abilities of older students. Our classroom teachers are experts in differentiating lessons to meet the developmental levels and abilities of children across these ages.

How will I be able to see what my child is engaged in during the day?
The preschool team uses calendars, newsletters, and See-Saw to provide families with opportunities to be a part of teaching and learning. This preschool link will be updated frequently with general information, relative to all five preschool programs.

Will my child be in a classroom with children with disabilities?
Yes….the Easton Public Schools preschool is a specialized program designed to meet the needs of all children, including children with disabilities. This model mirrors the inclusion practices of grades K-12. Each of the preschool classrooms provides an environment that fosters peers as partners in learning. Research has shown that including children of varying ability levels serves to enhance the growth and development of all children. Community peer children benefit from being in a classroom supported by specialized staff, including speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.

Does my child need to be toilet trained?
Yes….community peer children need to be toilet trained before starting in the program.

What does my child need to bring to school each day?
Each child needs a backpack, a change of clothing, and a communication notebook (provided by the teacher). The snack procedure varies by classroom, and you will get more information at the beginning of the year.

Is there transportation available for my child?
There is no transportation available to community peer students. Each school (Parkview School and Moreau Hall) has its own drop-off and pick-up procedures.

Can I volunteer in my child’s classroom?
Parents are often invited to volunteer in their child’s classrooms. Some teachers have weekly volunteers, while other teachers use volunteers for special activities. In order to volunteer, a completed CORI check must be on file in the main office.
