Summer School and Pre-College

Many colleges offer summer enrichment programs. These will not increase your chances of admission. Pre-college summer programs often give teens a taste of the most attractive aspects of college life: dorm housing, challenging classes, and a parent-free environment. They can start by gauging the teen’s maturity to see if this kind of setting will be a good fit. Freedom is a strong factor in almost every program. Something to note is that they’re not as supervised as a summer camp program would be. Most colleges have some type of summer program. Following is a small list of local programs.

Important Handouts

Summer School

Unfortunately, summer school is no longer available in Easton. However, we have listed options in the surrounding towns. Please complete the Oliver Ames Summer School Plan and return it to the School Counseling office.  Your School Counselor sends a letter at the end of the school year explaining what classes need to be retaken to maintain credit.  It is the family’s responsibility to return the summer school plan to be approved and send final grades after the class has been taken to have credit restored to the student’s transcript.

Complete the Summer School Plan and return to School Counselor before starting the program.

Dual Enrollment Programs

Dual Enrollment is an opportunity for students to take college courses and earn credits while still in high school. Oliver Ames students have participated in dual enrollment programs for many years. To participate, a student must identify what program they would like to do and follow up to apply.  Some colleges require placement testing.  Students choose a class that does not conflict with their school day during the evenings, weekends, or online. There is usually a fee to take the class.  The class does not take the place of their OA courses; it is in addition. Once the class is complete, the student sends their transcript with the grade to their Guidance Counselor to be put on their transcript. The class will not be factored into GPA or rank. Students cannot take classes that are OA graduation requirements. Just a note, not all colleges will accept all credits, especially if it is a course that is necessary for a particular program. If you are interested, here are some programs our students have utilized in the past:

Massasoit Community College
Bridgewater State University
Stonehill College
Bristol Community College
Southeastern Technical Institute – has programs in culinary, HVAC, medical assisting, and electrical.
