EASTON — Superintendent Lisha Cabral and Oliver Ames High School Principal Kelly Cavanaugh are pleased to share that Oliver Ames’ senior Jaden Hinton received the prestigious Ron Brown Scholarship.
Hinton was one of 50 recipients from almost 4,000 applicants. The scholarship, presented by the Ron Brown Scholar Program, is awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence, possess leadership potential, social commitment and financial need. This scholarship is meant to advance higher education and improve the lives of service-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans, and to accelerate their progress into impactful leadership roles and opportunities.
In addition to excelling in academics, Hinton worked at Maplewood Country Day Camp in 2021 and 2022, leading groups of 20 to 30 children through games and activities. He was in charge of handling conflicts and resolving difficult situations, and he taught the children he worked with social and communication skills.
Hinton volunteered at Baby’s Day Out in Sharon and RPO Football Camp in Easton. He also participated in a number of sports and co-curricular activities at Oliver Ames including football, wrestling, the Multicultural Club, Chess Club, and Computer Science Club.
“The Ron Brown experience was amazing. It was my first time ever truly surrounded by such bright people that thought like me, had dreams and aspirations as great or greater than mine, but most importantly that looked like me,” said Hinton. “I am beyond blessed and forever thankful for my acceptance into the Ron Brown Community!”
Hinton has won several awards in his time at Oliver Ames including Most Valuable Player, Hockomock League All Star, National Honor Society, High Honors, The DAR Good Citizens Award, two-time Sectional Finalist, Sectional Champion Wrestler,
Adam Pomella Coaches Award and the Patriot Ledger Winter All-Scholastic Athlete award.
“I would like to congratulate Jaden for receiving such a distinguished award,” said Superintendent Cabral. “Jaden’s determination and academic excellence is widely recognized by the entire Easton Public Schools and the community. We’re very excited to see what’s next for him!”
The Ron Brown Scholar Program
The nation’s leading scholarship program for African-American youth announced its 2022 class of Scholars. The winners, selected from amongst nearly 4,000 applicants, will receive mentoring, career counseling and $40,000 toward their college expenses. This year’s class of Scholars numbers 50, up from 25 in previous years.
